Being a member of a local church is a unique and transformative experience that stands apart from membership in other organizations. While many groups prioritize the needs of the individual, the essence of church membership lies in our commitment to serve others in the name of Jesus Christ. At Merrill Wesleyan, we are passionate about embodying this mission, understanding that we exist not for our own benefit, but to make a positive impact in the lives of those around us.
Every follower of Christ is intrinsically part of the larger spiritual body of Christ, but membership within a church organization comes through a public commitment. At Merrill Wesleyan, we invite you to take this step—making a heartfelt promise before God and our community to dedicate yourself to the vital work of Christ within our congregation. Join us in this journey of service, connection, and purpose as we strive to uplift and support one another in faith.
Things to consider before becoming a member:
- Have I made a profession of faith in Christ as savior and Lord?
(Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 10:9) - Have I committed myself to attending church regularly for at least six months prior to pursuing membership? (This period will give ample time to form a relationship with the church community and the individual pursuing membership.)
Expectations of members:
- Profess faith in Christ and desire to grow in their discipleship to Jesus.
- Commit to being in community with one another (Acts 2:42, Hebrews 10:25) for the purpose of ongoing discipleship (mutual encouragement, edification and accountability).
- We intend for members to be involved in serving the church and community through the gifts God has given them for the sake of growing and edifying the Body of Christ
(1 Corinthians 12:1-31). - We expect members to follow the guidelines set forth in the Wesleyan Discipline for membership.
